Dragons are finally discovered on earth, but as quickly as they are discovered they are soon wiped out. And that's when humans discover the vital role Dragons played in the ecosystem of earth.
Not only were they considered the protectors of the human race (Thanks to ancient documents found after it was far to late to save the dragons) but they kept the earth functioning, kept the seas and oceans from rising over the land and the volcanoes from exploding too violently, kept it cold and icy where it should be. The dragons kept the rain from washing away towns and cities too often, they kept the tree's from withering and dying as well as stopping too many tornadoes and hurricanes from stirring to life.
Now the dragons are gone, out of the forty thousand dragons that lived upon our land fewer then twenty remain spread all over the world. And these twenty are certainly not enough to stop all the natural disasters from happening. Seas are rising rapidly. Tree's and plants are dying left and right. Volcanoes explode violently, leaving destruction in their wake. Ice caps are melting rain pounds down hard, causing flash floods and devastating towns. The dragons that are left just can't handle it all.
And even though humans now know what part the dragons played their are those who insist on killing them so eventually the number is whittled down. Every month the news reports the death of another dragon. Soon there will be no more hope left for the human race to cling too. That's when the luck dragon, the only one of his kind decides to intervene, even if it costs him his life.
And it does.
He stops spreading his luck across the entire earth and descends to earth from space where he lives. And from there he chooses four people to each raise a young dragonling and fight for the dragons. He marks each of them in turn, touching them with a glowing claw in a different place. A shoulder, a forehead, the palm of a hand, a chest. He speaks to each of them, telling them to find the other three.
Since the Luck Dragon's appearance with the first human, people have been tracking him down, eager to kill him and sell off his magnificent scales and claws. And by the fourth chosen person his luck is running out, he's used to much of it to aid the others he has visited and now he must decide, help this last of the chosen or use his luck to escape.
He gives the last of his luck to the person who stands in front of him, telling them to run and join up with the others at the place he has chosen for them. Then he, the dragon, is off and running, leading the humans away from the last chosen one.
And he is never seen again. Alive that is. Several of his scales have popped up on the black market however.
But he gave his life to help humanity find their lost way.
Now it's up to those four people to gather together and find their eggs before all the dragons are wiped from this earth. They are the ones who must stand up to the dragons since no one else seems to be able to stop the slaughtering.
OK! Now then I figure each person can either get an egg or a hatchling (like go into the heart of dragon territory and find their marked hatching. For the Luck dragon went around marking eggs and/or hatchlings as well as the humans). There will be one dragon of each basic element. Water (for the seas/oceans and rain), fire (Volcanoes and lightning), Earth (tree's, plants, earth itself) and Wind (ice caps and tornadoes).
Hurricanes are controlled/stopped by Water/Wind
Tornadoes are controlled/stopped by Wind
Lightning storms are controlled/stopped by Fire
Earthquakes are controlled/stopped by Earth
Volcanoes are controlled/stopped by Fire/Earth
Tsunami's are controlled/stopped by Water
Plate shifts are controlled by a joint effort of Water/Earth/Fire the Dragons of the Wind oversee it from above and tell them where to move things.
